Maris Ziedins Announces Retirement

The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms Maris Ziedins has today announced that he will be hanging up his skates at the end of the current season.

Maris joined the Phantoms in December 2007 and on Saturday made is 300th appearance in a Phantoms shirt. He is currently sitting on 199 goals for the Phantoms and has racked up 426 points for the club.

Maris spent four years playing for St Norbert College in the NCAA before turning pro with the Rockford IceHogs of the UHL in 2002.

He played ECHL for the Toledo Storm, Greenville Grrrowl (Same club as former Phantom Antti Kohvakka played for) and the Stockton Thunder before returning to the UHL with the Chicago Hounds.

In 2005 Maris represented Latvia at the IIHF World Championships, and the following year he represented Latvia at the 2006 Winter Olympics, scoring a goal for his country against Sweden.

The club will be working with Maris to arrange a celebration of his career in Peterborough at the end of the season.
